Takahiko Iimura's Ai (Love), 1962, 10 min, 16mm

Stop Making Nonsense! Japanese Surrealist Films 1960-1964

Screening & discussion
Co-Prosperity Sphere, Chicago, IL
June, 2015

This screening programmed by South Side Projections included Nobuhiko Obayashi's Complexe (1964, 15 min, 16mm), Motoharu Jonouchi's Pou Pou (1960, 22 min, 16mm), Takahiko Iimura's Ai (Love) (1962, 10 min, 16mm), and Nobuhiko Obayashi and Kazutomo Fujino's Tabeta Hito (An Eater) (1963, 24 min, 16mm). Following the screening I situated the films in the larger context of the Japanese avant-garde of the 1960s and in the terms of Japanese historical and art historical events.

A transcript of the post-screening conversation can be found on the South Side Projections website here
