Parade of Demons 182 River Street, Troy, NY September 24 - October 21, 2010
There is an uncertainty, a lingering mystery that is intrinsic to our experience. What molds our perspective of the unexplained? How does folklore inform this understanding? These are a few of the questions that emerge for me when I think about how to define a ‘monster’ in the present day. The work in this exhibition served to open a dialogue about mysticism today: as a source of entertainment, as a way to explain that which cannot be otherwise explained, and as an exploration of the depths of human experience.
Artists Included: Seana Biondolillo, Alex Drum, Jennifer Farina, Sean McCausland and Jake Winiski
Parade of Demons was inspired by Hyakkiyagyo (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons) a legend from Japanese folklore popularly depicted in hand scrolls.
